At the heart of the collection is a hand-engraved wax seal emblazoned with the word ¡VIVA! — a joyful, defiant exclamation in Spanish that is a tribute to Frida's unyielding spirit.
Inspired by Frida’s floral hair bouquet and in homage to Mexico, Jessica has designed this limited edition charm set with symbolic stones to commemorate Frida Kahlo's life and her losses.
Jessica has chosen to represent her story through a hand engraved wax seal with the word VIVA, in Spanish exclamations, as a way of celebrating death by shouting about life, and is a nod to her ‘Letters of Note’ campaign.
This 9ct seal has been adorned by a trio of colours around the seal, faceted red (garnet) white (diamond) and emerald (green) to symbolise the Mexican flag and her patriotism. She was so patriotic, she claimed she was born in 1910 so that her birth date would coincide and be associated with the start of the Mexican Revolution!
¡Viva la Frida! is a storytelling trio of charms celebrating the traditionally celebrated death anniversary of renowned artist Frida Kahlo, who passed away 70 years ago. Here is an interview with Jessica explaining her design process.
